Turning Research into Real-World Impact

Daniela Rus builds bridges between imagination and implementation. As a researcher, roboticist, and entrepreneur, she believes the highest purpose of technology is to advance knowledge, and use the new insights to define what machines can do, what people can do, and what they can do together.

Her entrepreneurial work grows out of decades of research at MIT CSAIL in robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomy, and machine learning. Across startups, spinouts, boards, and advisory roles, she has helped move breakthrough ideas from the lab into the world, creating technologies that improve mobility, strengthen trust in AI, support intelligent infrastructure, and bring machine intelligence closer to human needs.

For Daniela, entrepreneurship is a form of translation: turning deep science into useful systems, turning prototypes into platforms, and turning bold ideas into companies that can scale impact. Her ventures reflect a consistent vision: technology should be powerful, practical, responsible, and designed to serve society.

STARTUP PROFILES

Selected Startups and Spinouts

Daniela Rus has co-founded and advised companies that bring rigorous academic research into real-world use, from autonomous logistics and on-demand transit to trustworthy AI and efficient foundation models.

Her entrepreneurial work reflects a central belief: the future of AI and robotics will be built on the foundational work captured in papers and laboratories and in the products, platforms, and companies that bring the new ideas to the world and touch people’s lives. These ventures carry forward ideas developed at MIT CSAIL and translate them into technologies that bring intelligence onto the devices, machines, and systems where decisions happen, improve transportation and logistics, and make AI more reliable.

Across this portfolio, the common thread is impact. Daniela’s companies are about building intelligent systems that are more capable, more efficient, more trustworthy, and more aligned with human needs. Every company here traces back to a scientific result and forward to a human need. Venti Technologies moves goods through the world’s ports and industrial yards autonomously. The Routing Company reinvents public transit as an on-demand service, so that mobility reaches the people fixed routes leave behind. Themis AI gives machine learning something it has always lacked: the ability to know, and say, when it is uncertain. And Liquid AI builds foundation models inspired by the elegance of natural brains — smaller, faster, and more efficient than the giants, capable of running where the work actually happens.

Ideas That Shape
the Future

Breakthroughs need ecosystems. Daniela works with founders, researchers, students, industry leaders, and investors to move bold ideas from first principles to real-world impact.

If you are building the next generation of AI, robotics, mobility, intelligent systems, or device-native technologies (systems that are efficient, trustworthy, and designed to serve people) there may be an opportunity to collaborate.

Daniela welcomes conversations with people and organizations working to turn scientific imagination into technologies that improve lives, strengthen society, and help shape a better future.
